Maury Wills Autograph Signing

This past Sunday Dodger great Maury Wills made an appearance at the Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga to sign autographs. Just like always, the autograph session took place during the Quakes game. I really had no business being there. I attended a couple of Maury Wills appearances last year and other Maury Wills events even before I started this blog.

I figured since it was in my area I would take advantage of it. When I arrived I noticed a decent turnout of fans already waiting in line. There were many familiar faces but I didn't feel like mingling. I baked all day in the hot sun at work so I wasn't in the best of moods. For a good portion of the line Maury signed every item that fans put in front of him. After a while Quakes staff wanted fans to limit their items down to one item since the line was moving very slow.

Signing Recap:

  • People in line? I would guess around 50 people.
  • Items per person? Multiple items since there was a chance to get back in line.
  • Free signing? Free with paid admission.
  • Giveaways? None.
  • City of the event? Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

The only thing I could think of for Maury to sign for me was Tommy Davis' "Tales from the Dodgers Dugout". Maury did the forward on the book so it would make sense for him to also sign it.

To be honest I regret going since I missed out on a previous
obligation and this is all I took to get signed. I guess It is what it is.

Maury Wills Autograph Signing

Former Dodger Maury Wills made an appearance during a Rancho Cucamonga Quakes game. I wasn't sure about attending this event since I already have multiple items signed by Maury. At the same time I had to take advantage of the short drive from home and needed my autograph fix. What is an autograph fix? I'm like a drug addict but with autographs. If I go a while without attending a signing I feel pressure and stress. I'm happy to report that I got my fix today.

Anyways, back to the signing. Just like the last signing I attended I arrived in my work clothes. When I entered the stadium I went directly to the autograph line and noticed less than 50 people in line. The line moved slow the entire signing since this was an actual meet and greet event. We were not rushed like a herd of cattle. Once it was my turn I got my item signed, got a posed pic and got the hell out of there. I was up at 4:00 a.m and worked all day so I was very tired.

Signing Recap:
  • People in line? Less than 50.
  • Items per person? Multiple items with a chance to get back in line.
  • Giveaways? None.
  • Free signing? Free with paid admission.

Maury took his time during the signing. He also inscribed whatever you wanted.

Here is Maury chatting with a kid.

Maury Wills Autograph Signing & Evander Holyfield Photo Op

Dodger's great Maury Wills made an appearance at Frank & Sons in the City of Industry. The event was hosted by Hall of Fame Sports which featured their annual open house. I arrived about 3 hours before the signing and was surprised that there were only 5 people in line. Time went fast and before I knew it fans were being let into the warehouse.

Many other former players were scheduled later in the day such as Pete Rose, Rudy Law and Claude Osteen. I only went for Maury Wills and the free gift bag that Hall of Fame Sports was giving away. After getting my autograph I picked up some memorabilia supplies and then headed out to an Evander Holyfield appearance.

Maury was in a good mood even though it doesn't show in this photo.

I got a photo and mini bat signed by Maury.

Signing Recap:

  • People in line? I would say over 150 people.
  • Items per person? 1 item.
  • Free signing? Only for Maury Wills and Rudy Law. Pete Rose & Claude Osteen had a fee per item.
  • Giveaways? Free gift bags were given away.

Evander Holyfield appearance.

Boxing champ Evander Holyfield made an appearance at a Dodge dealership in the City of Downey. I headed over after the Maury Wills event at Frank & Sons. I arrived at the event after it had started. I noticed many disappointed fans. Why? Evander was not signing any autographs at all. He was only doing a photo op with fans. Many fans were persistent and kept asking if he could sign their item. The answer was still the same from Evander. "I can't".

To be honest even though Evander didn't sign any items I was still glad I made it. He is a boxing legend and being able to talk to him and get a picture taken with him was well worth the trip.

I noticed that Evander had an ear that looked a little weird. I'm sure that was the one that Mike Tyson bit back in '97.

Since Evander didn't sign any items I figured to at least get multiple pics with him.

After Evander took pics with everybody he did a Q & A session.

He answered every question that fans asked him.

Below is a video of Evander talking with the fans. Evander is asked "Who hit the hardest of all your opponents".

I have a post from another Hall of Fame Sports open house linked here.

Thanks to Hall of Fame Sports, Maury Wills, Downey Dodge and Evander Holyfield for these free events.
